UK alternative rock band Catherine Wheel has released a remastered version of their 1991 debut EP, She’s My Friend, called The Norfolk Remasters – She’s My Friend.
It contains the original recording of She’s My Friend and Salt, which were rerecorded for Ferment, and 2 previously digitally unreleased songs, Upside Down and Wish.
Upside Down and Wish have only ever been available on the original, vinyl-only EP. (Or via vinyl ripped MP3s if you were fortunate enough to have either.)
It was recorded in guitarist Brian Futter’s bedroom on a Fostex 8-track. Then real drums were put on and it was mixed at Purple Rain Studios. The original vinyl cut was done at Abbey Road.
I remember what it felt like to discover and hear new b-sides in the 90s so I imagine hearing these 2 songs for the first time will be a joy for fans who haven’t heard them yet.
The band still has full ownership of these recordings from their 2 debut EPs (including Painful Thing) and have decided to remaster and release them.
She’s My Friend is available worldwide today, and Painful Thing will be released May 5.
They are available on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon. You can also buy downloadable MP3s from Amazon here. (Other services can be found here)
